The CRMS music program explores everything from basic harmonies to recording students' own creations. The music program is ubiquitous around campus. School-wide performances each year celebrate the many musical talents of students. There are also band concerts throughout the year and student performances which open every All-School Meeting each week.
Vocal and instrumental music is taught during the academic day through a variety of classes. As academic classes, music is studied in small ensembles in which students can learn various styles, including but not limited to the following: chamber, classical, country, folk, bluegrass, blues, jazz, rock ’n’ roll, and ethnic music. CRMS student musicians learn to appreciate music through research, the study of music fundamentals, theory, technique, and professional live performances throughout the school year.
The Senior Music offering includes recording & engineering and songwriting which allows the opportunity for students to study and develop their skills and talents individually and collaboratively. The goal of this music course is to study advanced music that is selected by the students, in preparation for live performance. The students review intermediate music theory and work their way towards the study of advanced music theory, analysis, improvisation, and composition and are expected to prepare several presentations about music for their class by doing research in the school library and on the Internet.
